Sometimes our hard-headed natures are not in our own good. And the most merciful thing that God can do for us is to cause us or “make us”, [ if you will ] rest in the spot where He means to restore us.

That is why the scripture says here – He makes me lie down in green pastures. Sometimes we would run right by the spot where God means to take care of us and to restore us. But the Lord in his Mercy helps us to see and to obey – in those spots and places where He means to refresh and restore us.

I remember when I was a little boy. My mother every night told me to say my prayers. And I would say out loud – “now I lay me down to sleep.” And as a hard-headed hyperactive little boy. I didn’t want to lay down. She had to make me lay down. But I was a good boy – even though I was a hyperactive little boy.

So I listened and got down on my knees and said my prayers and laid myself to sleep. Even though I beat my head on the pillow – I had so much energy. Lol / But my mama was good to me teaching me to lie down, even when I didn’t want to. 

   Even so – Sometimes our own Nature’s need the tempering guidance and constructive influence of parental government. Thus,  God treats us as children, who if we will allow the nurture and guidance of His Holy Spirit – He keeps His own, in the path of Life by our obedience to his Divine will.  “No longer I – but Christ that lives within me!” He knows better what I need than I know myself. And I am late against my own desires to go astray, when I let him have the controls of my life!
