Accepting the Lordship of Christ means for me, not just acknowledging that Jesus died and rose for me a long time ago. It also means accepting him as my God today. That His Lordship was not only a historical event. But that I need moment-by-moment submission, of my life to his Lordship.
Sometimes I blow it. When the recognition comes to me that I have done or thought something, that is out of step with Christ’s will. Accepting his Lordship means for me, that I bring it in to check. Then I bring that thought or action to the obedience to Christ. This is a spiritual progression. The more we obey, the more likely it is that we will obey.
But the motive is not, that we earn anything by our own works…. But that out of love and gratitude for Christ’s salvation; And out of love for Him as our Lord, we cheerfully submit our lives to His direction. And as we grow, we submit All of our lives, to his Lordship.
His Lordship not only means that He is the master of the universe. More personally it means that He is my master. That I Look to Him for all matters of importance in life, for guidance. That I desire His will above my own. And when I do not, that I recognize this and asked for his Divine help and enabling, to escape the trap of self-will and even more fully accept and embrace His design and purposes for my life. That is what it means to me to say, Jesus is Lord!
