Live in the new thing God is doing Today, Not in the Past

– Many people choose to live in the past.
– It’s almost as though the only way they can think is that the ‘good old days’ were the best days & so they live in the past, to try to “relive” them. But that never works.

– We all know someone who lives in this way. – They can tell you of dates and times and wonderful memories and they carry a form of sadness with them, everywhere they go. Because they think the the future could never be as good as the past.

– Living this way is like dragging dead, unhelpful baggage through the present & into the future. – We all have ‘precious memories’ of life, which add to the rich fabric of living. I am not saying to discard these. But please consider this advice from the scriptures telling us how God means for us to live our lives today.

– Isaiah 43:18 ‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.’

– Living in the past is not the way God designed us to live.
– In fact we are told to radically release the past. The words the Bible uses are ‘forget’ and ‘do not dwell’.

– God tells us this because in Him we have so much more to do and look forward to. God’s emphasis is always NOW!
– He wants to do new and wonderful things in our lives today. If not in our circumstance, then in our heart.

Consider this verse.
– Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
God is the ultimate terraformer. He makes dry ground, turn into living productive rich soil. God can take the old, (the past), & turn it into something vital and new. If we will quit dragging our dead circumstance around. And let Him breathe into us & live through us; the vitality and vigor of a brand new life.
