The Motive of Effectual Prayer

I have discovered that if there is a secret to a healthy Christian Life. It is a healthy prayer life.

We will discuss and meditate on these and other thoughts, how to have an effective prayer life Sunday morning, at 10:30 at Forsyth Friends Meeting, in Winston-Salem, NC. Join us if you can, as we learn how to make our lives more meaningful through prayer.

The Motive of 🙏 / “”Effectual Prayer”

Matthew 26:41. Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Psalm 118:5. New Living Translation
5 In my distress I prayed to the Lord,
and the Lord answered me and set me free.

James 5:16. King James Version
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:16. New Living Translation
16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results

Point #1. Don’t try to figure things out to know how to pray. Pray & you will be given the light to figure things out.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom. 12:2 NLT

Point #2. Prayer should be approached with an attitude of gratitude.

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
“”There’s a big difference between having something to be grateful for and finding something to be grateful for.”” Margo DeGange

1 Thessalonians 5:18. in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus

Point #3. Motive is everything with God. He not only sees what we do, but why we do, what we do.
James 4:3 New Living Translation
3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
James 4:3. Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
3 [Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.

That’s why daily, fervent, soulsearching prayer is so important. To make sure our motives are for His will above & beyond our own. / we will refer to this again discussing the importance of holiness in prayer.

Point #4. We worship a moral God. And Christianity is a moral religion. Therefore prayer must have a moral nature.
John 1:5 “This is the message that we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.”
The Searchlight of Holiness is in ever present monitor in the heart of the honestly seeking Christian. Holiness is not only a call for us to reach tour. But a light shining From The Heart of Jesus to show us things about ourselves, out of step with the nature of Christ.

Point #5. Sometimes when personal prayer is most difficult, it is most needed.

Romans 8:26 n l t And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

After all, prayer is not about us knowing the answers but seeking a God who does. When it seems like something’s blocking prayer, then pray for God to remove the blockage & open a door in the Spirit.

Point #6. Supernatural love involves our mind but it’s not just thinking. Supernatural love involves our heart but is not just feelings.

Love can not be stated stronger or purer than The
Love of Christ. Jesus is Divine Love. Any less is a cheap imitation. Divine Love is beyond a “thought” or a “feeling”. The cross did not “feel” good. If u only listen to thoughts or feelings, you can be easily deceived. Look deeper. Because The Love of God is certainly deeper than ur “feelings.”

Ephesians 3:19 KJV
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Ephesians 3:19 NLT
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Point #7. 1 of the most deep & true forms of Prayer is: A “Yes Lord” Style of praying. Which both acknowledges God’s voice & responds in faithful & worshipful reply, to the Message of The Most High.

1st Samuel 3 verses 7 through 10. 7 Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a message from the Lord before. 8 So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. 9 So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed.10 And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

Even so one of the most healthy developments in a believer’s prayer life is learning to discern Spirit from mind and soul and body.
Hebrews 4:12, NKJV. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1st Corinthians 2 verses 10 through 16 – NKJV

10 But (J)God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the (K)spirit of the man which is in him? (L)Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but (M)the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the [d]Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 (N)But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For (O)“who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” (P)But we have the mind of Christ.
