7 – 8 years ago, I began to teach Karate, to a young boy, who was a little awkward & had a posture problem. But he worked hard and had a good attitude. So, I expected good things.
Through the years, I have taught hundreds of students & can tell success stories about many of them. And I gave trained a few champs that you could tell they would excel from the beginning. But “Skywalker” was different. He had several struggles to overcome & I wasn’t sure just how far he would come.
About 3-4 years ago he double downed on his training commitment and it became obvious, his skills were going to be good. But he got stuck with pushing through, what I call one o-clock training, named after my first black-belt, Cork Severt . Who called me at 1:00 in the morning, when he made the discovery, I was trying to get him to learn. So stuck was Skywalker, that I became concerned that he might not get past it. But if you keep polishing a diamond & it will eventually shine through. Justin Fields sure did! With Carri Darr Fields & Bill Fields support & encouragement. When Justin pushed through, he did so with a bang!
He has now far exceeded the #karate talent level of any previous student. I have to stay on my 62 year old toes, to keep the heat on his very ambitious training goals. There are a plethora of balance, flexibility & dynamism talents that I can only see in a 62 year olds rear view mirror. Talents that he is currently pushing to a while new level.
He very effectively teaches with me. Recently when I could not be there & bring something karate related with me. He quipped, “No worries, I will bring the karate with me!” And even so, he does! Bring It, Skywalker!!! And I am sure he will! To a whole, new level!!! Sensei Tim-
