The Bible’s self stated purpose

There is power and Majesty in the Christian scriptures. The Bible has changed more lives than any other manuscript in history. Yet, the Bible loses so much of its meaning and impact, when people (especially Christians) argue over every jot and tittle. Therefore, this Sunday at 10:45 we will talk about “What the Bible is and what the Bible is not.”

The Creation account in Genesis is an illustration of why I bring this message. It is certainly one of the most important passages in all of the scriptures. There is beautiful meaning and Powerful Spiritual truth in Genesis chapters 1 & 2. There is a great Warehouse of dynamic, relevant spiritual wisdom in this portion of the scriptures. But unfortunately, the spiritual impact of its message is sometimes, not focused on. Instead, divisive issues from an improper emphasis on science only, cause people not to see the beautiful spiritual help to be found in these passages.

There is no way that the original author could understand the scientific principles by which God created the world. It couldn’t have been that the original author understood or had any foggy notion about the scientific principles, of the creation of the Earth. And yet that is where just about all the conversations today from this passage, seem to center. Yet there is so much Beauty and life to be found in this passage, other than just scientific principle. So, Instead of arguing over scientific theorems on how the world was created. Which even today, we couldn’t understand, if God shared them in deepest theoretical physics context, with us. Knowing this. Why not focus principally, on the Spiritual life and power in the passage?

There are clear messages in the Creation account that have to do mainly with spiritual purpose and not just science! For instance, We can see that God’s Spirit moving in the beginning. From the beginning of the recorded scriptures, the moving of the Spirit of God was important. In these verses, We see that light came first. And that the light was good. Indicating the Divine principle in the universe that light is in, behind and throughout everything God makes. And how true this is with everything God initiates everywhere and everytime. That everything that God designs is genuinely full of light & His goodness, when looked at correctly. Wow! What a message!

We can also see that man was the crowning Glory of God’s creation. That God took great joy in our creation and in us as His creation. Of all the creative acts of God, it was only of man, it was mentioned that the design was in the very image of God. How important it is to all of us to understand our value to God. In from the beginning, you wanted to make this very plain and known to us. Wow! What a message!

We can see that from these passages, there was order and design in all creation. And that all creatures are important. This helps us see how important it is for man to take his proper role in taking care of and managing God’s beautiful earth creation. Wow! What a message!

From the beginning, these passages make plain that there was an intended remarkable relationship between man and woman intended in God’s mind, even in the creation accounts. Wow! What a message!

And these important spiritual truths I’ve said here are a few of the most obvious spiritual messages, in the account of creation. There is so much more of spiritual importance in this message about the beginning, than just scientific examination. In other words there’s much spiritual impact in the Holy scriptures than is often found. We devalue and minimize God purpose, by looking only at argument about one aspect of a passage. By doing this; we actually undermine God’s message; by majoring on minors.

So many things that God wants to show us through the scriptures are so clear that we can’t miss them. Why should we spend all our time arguing about details that we couldn’t understand, even if God explained them to us? Why spend all our time arguing about things that very few people are going to agree about anyway?

Since the meaning and purpose of the Christian scriptures is to make us wise unto Salvation. 2 Tim. 3:15 – Why not focus on this self stated purpose of the scriptures? The point of the Bible’s main message should be the main point of our study.

If we major on minors, we do not allow the power, Majesty and possibility of the scriptures, to move and guide Our Lives, towards more Godliness. Love for God and for each other should be primary emphasis in study. “To love the Lord Our God with all our heart soul and strength and our neighbor as ourself” are the greatest commands in the book. Does it not make sense that the rest of the book should be looked at to help us do this? Wow! What a message!

Loving God and loving others should be the primary emphasis for everything we do. Which should obviously mean then, that it be the reason above all others, that we read and study the scriptures. It has been well said, that “a Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who is not”. Come worship with us Sunday as we think together how the authority and power of the Bible can bring us together! It can draw us closer to Christ and each others, as Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Come join us if you can. You will be welcomed, spiritually encouraged and nourished! Pastor Tim – Timothy Grant Carter / aka Slam-
